Ranking of countries by the level of poverty in the world
Poverty is a characteristic of the economic situation of an individual or social group in which they cannot meet a certain range of minimum needs necessary to live, maintain working capacity, and reproduce. Assessing the level of poverty in countries, usually experts are guided by such indicators as GDP or GDP per capita. However, in practice the income of the country can be unevenly distributed among the population, so economists use more accurate indicators to determine the number of people in the country living below the poverty line. This indicator is calculated by the World Bank, which regularly compiles a report (Poverty headcount ratio at $5.50 a day (2011 PPP) (% of population)) based on data obtained from government statistical agencies and from local World Bank offices in a number of countries.
