Level of education in the world – a list

The Education Index is a universal indicator of the relative level of literacy in a given country. It is included in the overall list of the most important indicators of the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) and is one of the key indicators of social development. The UN, UNESCO, and national statistical agencies are involved in its compilation. The Education Index is also used to calculate the Human Development Index (HDI) as part of a special series of UN Human Development Reports. It is considered that the minimum value of the index, at which the country can be called literate, is the value of 0.8.

The Education Index of countries is updated every two to three years, with UN data reports usually two years late, as they require international comparison after the publication of data by national statistical offices. The last time the rankings were published was in 2019 (reflecting the 2018 results).
